DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION

The Department was established in 1945.

Faculty:

Prof.M.Nagaraj. M.P.Ed., Director, Department of Physical Education and Sports. Expert coach inShuttle Badminton. The Department caters to all the students of the college. The Department has an athletic, Tennis, Ball Badminton, and Shuttle Badminton, Basket Ball and Foot Ball and cricket fields/courts. There are two indoor sports facility, one for the boys and one for the girls. There is a modern gymnasium with exclusive timings for girls. There is one physical Education teacher and an assistant. Coaches from other colleges are invited during sports camps and training sessions.  Seventy five percent of boys and fifty percent of girls involve in the various sports activities. Several students have represented Bangalore University in various games.

Highlights of Faculty:

• Selected as a Coach and manager of the Bangalore University Badminton team and Participated in the Inter University National Tournament in 2005.The team won the championship under the leadership of the Director.
•  In the year 2006, he acted as a coach of Bangalore University Badminton team visiting Gwalior for the All India Inter University Badminton   tournament.
•  In the year 2007, he visited the Mumbai University along with the Bangalore University team. In this year, the team won the All India championship. In the Year 2008, our college team won the runners – up trophy at the State level inter collegiate cricket tournament held at Government Science College, Bangalore.
•  In  the year  2009, he  visited The Dibrughar University, Assam accompanying the women’s team  In the tournament, the Bangalore University  Women ‘s Team have won the All India Inter  University  Championship.

Student Achievements:

• Viswanath.S represented Bangalore University Football Team.
• Akshay .V.Shetty  won the individual championship  and a Gold medal  in the hammer  throw  event.
• Shuttle Badminton  Men and Women’s teams  have won the Inter Collegiate  Badminton  Championship  of 2009 and 2010.
• Our college Ball Badminton  team has won the runners –up trophy in the S.S.M.R.V  Inter College tournament  for the  year 2010 -11.
• Our college Tennis  Captain Rishab was selected for the  Bangalore University team.
• Mukeshand  Shruthi.B.V were selected for the Bangalore University  Shuttle Badminton team.

Future Plans:

The Department  plans

• to appoint professional coaches for the various games and sports.
• to felicitate the former students who were achievers in various sports events by giving    awards.

• to make physical education compulsory for a few hours per week for all students.
• to improve the sports facilities in the college.
• to have special coaching sessions for the girl students.
