The Department of Zoology was started in 1964

Courses offered:

3 year B.Sc. [Chemistry, Botany, Zoology]

Zoological Museum–The Department has a well-equipped museum with good and rare collections of specimens of Invertebrates and Vertebrates, models pertaining to the Human anatomy, Embryology, osteology, Human Skeleton etc.

Apart from the students of Natural Sciences, this museum is also visited by the students of Anthropology/Sociology of the College and students of PUC colleges and High schools from nearby places.
Environmental Studies – Department of zoology is involved in teaching of EVS subject for all the degree students of the college.

The department has a library with about 135 books which is used by both the students and the members of the staff.

Modern teaching methods

Class room interactions, group discussions, seminars, project works, visiting the research centers, drawing and painting, workshops and motivating the students for science and scientific temper.
In addition to the regular teaching methodology, students are taken on excursion to study environmental issues. They are encouraged to collect specimens. Guidance is given to the students for their project work.

Collaborations

The Department collaborates with the Departments of Botany, Chemistry and Sociology in the teaching of some topics that are common in the syllabi.

In the last nine years the V & VI semester students have done projects on Apiculture, vermiculture, Physiology, environmental issues, Genetic diseases, Cardiology, Cancer and other burning issues with the help of university professors , PCB,and hospitals.

Future plans:
